Jerry Robinson. 1922 - 2011.

His most famous story, featuring the debut of his most popular and enduring creation, the Joker, from Batman # 1, written by Bill Finger and drawn by Bob Kane, for which Jerry supplies ink and backgrounds.  And The Case Batman Failed to Solve! from Batman # 14, written by Don Cameron. Thanks for everything, Jerry. You were a star, mate.

RIP. A sad day. It's funny, Joe, I picked the splash page of that first Joker story to put on my wall on FB. I remember it being the only page in color (for that story) in the book Batman: From the 30's to the 70's. I still remember being thoroughly freaked out by it. He created, arguably, the greatest comic book villain EVER...and his passing will probably only be noted by us geeks.

A sad say. He really created one of the scariest, and one of the most memorable, villains ever, and not just in comics.

Hang on. Is that Bruce Wayne /smoking/ in one of those scans?

Wow! I didn't know Englehart and Rogers lifted so many elements from the Joker's introductory story.

It was also a pretty good read and conveyed real menace.
