Thanks for having the gumption to include a link so that those of us who AREN'T in the know could read for ourselves what Frank wrote.

I hated Miller for years, just so you know. But he has really been making it easy lately.

Sad. so very sad.

The comments at his site are now where near one sides as your comments and the ones above (below?) are. Sorry guys but I agree with him, with 90% less venom but the guy is right.

I haven't been shy about my disdain for the Occupy [Insert Random Open Space Here] Movement, but a fair amount of disdain is on tap for Frank Miller as well.

And now it's not just because he crapped all over The Spirit and then wasted my time with "Holy Terror."

i think its fair to say a good many people at these occupy whatever protests dont even know why they are there but Frank's gross generalizations and disdain for youthful idealism make me sick. so, to echo our fearless blog master Joe - Go Fuck Yourself Frank!

Yes,I do not agree with Frank Miller.
One question ; exactly how do you go about "Fucking yourself"? :-)
Anyone?Please,instruction needed.
Cheers!

Steve Miller, I can't say it often enough;
EDUCATE YOURSELF.
PLEASE.

Wow! I've been fairly critical of the OWS movement and particularly the motives of some of the participants (criticizing capitalism while consuming most of its products with wild abandon and maxed out credit cards), but to be fair, there's a lot of dissatisfaction among people in the world and eventually, when people feel hurt, they make noise.

This is the first I've looked into Miller beyond the actual comics he's created. He doesn't believe in pulling any punches.

I just read the article. It's about what I expected from the man that fucked up Eisner and turned Batman into a wannabe.

Mike S. I assume by your quasi-literate offering above you disagree with the OWS movement. The OWS moment is growing in legitimacy as we write and have completely changed the argument for the coming election from government spending to jobs and corporate abuses. Was I you, I'd wake up and smell the fucking coffee. You're on the wrong side of history.

Eric Blackford said...

Your well-reasoned response to Mr. Miller (i.e. profanity and name-calling) sure convinced me that you're in the right on this issue - oh wait, no it didn't. All it did was meet my expectations for anyone trying to legitimize this asinine movement's overblown sense of self-importance. It's a joke and all of you are the unfunny punchlines (or is that "pawns"?) Congratulations. Well done.

Mykal said...

Eric: No. Congratulations to you! Thanks for demonstrating how the superior man never resorts to name calling, as did so many of us unfunny jokes (or is it "pawns"?) Cooler, intelligent heads like yours always provide a beacon of truth (or is it "hypocritical gas"?)

Artman2112 said...

i say Eric Blackford can go fuck himself too.

Miller is a scared little man. As with many of the above commenters who support him, he deliberately ignores the fact that the OWS demonstrators are not anti-capitalist, or anti-American; they are anti-corruption. They are against Wall Street using it's money to dictate government policy. Also, there are people who have been on the front line in wars amongst their number. How and why would anybody argue against those goals, unless they were one of the 1% themselves, or just terrified of change; like Miller.

Yes,Miller is a turd.
But,Joe,please,or someone:
How DO you Fuck yourself?
:-)

Gee I thought we could put opinions here and not get personally attacked but, sigh, no..thats how you liberals behave. Yes I have researched these people and considering Wall Street heavily supported Obama, they are protesting in the wrong place.

Chuck Wells said...

Boys & girls, the focus here should be on the words that Miller said, and no matter how free he is too say them, and in what context.

He is unquestionably wrong to have made this statement in the manner in which he did. That should be the primary focus here, not whether you liked his earlier work, or whether you agree with him or not. I've never particularly been a fan of his, but his pervasive need to demonstrate how big a douche he has become, is always entertaining.

That practice is only topped by how joyfully passionate his defenders can mistakenly be in defending this schmuck.

Joe, thanks for posting this. I'm glad I saw it so I know what's become of an old hero, but that was one of the most depressing things I've seen in a long time.

It goes to show why it is so important for fans of any kind of art to not get caught up in who the creators are. Because when you do, when you love somebody because their gifts and hard work helped light a fire in you when you were a kid... worse things can happen than having your hero go on to make "The Phantom Menace" a couple of decades later. Much worse things.

They might just reveal themselves to be hateful, ignorant, and just as susceptible to the next guy to bad habits like listening to AM radio while (apparently) drinking all day long or perhaps going on a meth bender before posting their "thoughts" on their blog.

Frank Miller just kicked a lot of people in the stomach with that post.

As for the supporters of Frank arguing here and on his site...

3 things:

1) When there are a lot of people gathered on the street, obviously it is easy to find individual examples for any argument you care to make, pro or con, about who they "really" are. I've seen lots of old ladies at Occupy rallies and I've seen lots of biligerant drunks at football games. That doesn't mean that all football fans are drunks or that the Occupy movement is mostly old ladies. It is a silly debate to have.

2) The message of the movement, the reason why they are in the streets is not very complicated at all.

They want money out of politics so that government (you know, you and me?) can regulate non-human corporations to protect the interests and well-being of real people. That's it. Not complicated, and not something to really be arguing about either.

Also, they are not in the wrong place. They are in NYC, DC, LA, London... they are everywhere. As is the problem they want addressed.

3) If you are working up an angry response to anything I just wrote... please take another look at that simple message, then go back and re-read what Frank Miller said.

Do you really want to stand up for that?

Mykal said...

Stephen: Bingo.

hey Stephen T harper i like the Phantom Menace, go fuck yourself!...heheh, hey just kidding, nice comment, very well put!

joe bloke said...

and Stephen T nails it, I think.

negative responses towards the Occupy movement astound me. I honestly do not see what it is that they are saying or doing that could create such hateful reactions. it's a simple matter of whether you care about your fellow human beings, or not. it really IS that simple.

and to the anonymous guy ( I'm assuming ) who was asking about fucking yourself: I did it by standing on a chair.

Anonymous said...

Ahh,ok.Thank you Mr Bloke, chair it is then.
And,joking aside;well put,Joe.
Caring about others.
And to spew vitriol at people who protest against greed, does that not tell us something about Mr Miller and his ilk?
Cheers!
I will try to fuck my self now.
