This blog already has a sizable Jack Burnley fan following, so his excellence here hardly needs further elaboration. But an extra word of praise for Bester, one of my all-time favorite writers. Opening the story with two pages of solid action and then going back in time to fill in the story wasn't normally done when this tale was written. A symbolic splash page of action perhaps, but opening in media res and then playing with the chronology is another matter. No surprise that the guy who later went on to The Stars My Destination and The Demolished Man would be the one playing games with formal story structure even this early...

Mind you, it wouldn't stand out so much if Burnley wasn't an absolute titan among comics artists.; 6 August 2011 21:30
