Happy New Year, Joe! Hope you have a good one, matey!!
Happy New Year, Mighty Joe! Keep on truckin', baby!
Hello, pal. Has PewPew Girl mentioned me?
Who could not love page six of that Superman comic? "Die, Sap," says the baddie. "This is to convince you I'm in earnest," says Superman, giving him an open hand; and follows that up with a threat for more. Here's a Supe that enjoys laying it on and isn't above beating the shit out of a bad guy for a little information.
If comics still looked and read like this, I'd still be buying the new stuff.
Yes, as I keep saying, the autogyro is the proper aircraft for comics, pulps, and movie serials!
Underlining what Mykal said, I note the apparent fate of the thug in (11:8): hurtling out the window, to his death.
Anyway, I join others in wishing you a happy new year, though I tend to look at calendars as pretty arbitrary things, and would as soon wish that any other 365 days were happy for you.
There's just something about golden age comix ('specially DC's golden age) that feels special and comforting and makes me feel twelve again.
Just as Mykal sez: I'd still be spending my allowance on comics if they were like this, but I haven't bought a new comic in years.
And like Daniel sez: Joe, all the best to ya all the time!
Hey joe, happy new year and all that; thanks for posting all the cool stuff!
Happy new year, Joe. Who's the woman directly below Marilyn? She looks like my kind of gal.
@Steve—
That is Myrna Loy. She is perhaps best known now for playing Nora Charles, opposite William Powell a Nick Charles, in the Thin Man series of films. Earlier, she played femmes fatales and Fah Lo See (the daughter of Fu Manchu). Later, she played more an idealization of the wife in middle age.
Thanks, Daniel. I know the name but I don't think I've ever seen her in anything.
@Steve—
Definitely find a way to watch the first four of the Thin Man movies, first and foremost for Loy's depiction of Nora.
I've not seen her earlier performances, but in the stills she's just g_dd_mn'd amazingly beautiful.
